Project representatives updated the Board of Supervisors on on-site progress for a county building project and said major precast elements are in place and the schedule remains on track for an April substantial completion.
Why it matters: The project involves multiple trades, close coordination for concrete and roofing work, and upcoming bids (fire suppression) that will affect the next procurement steps and budget tracking.
A contractor representative said Northwest Steel finished setting wall panels, columns and beams were being set, and roof plank was expected by Thursday or Friday. Another representative said the plan is to get the building watertight as soon as possible so interior trades can work through the winter. “Our main area that we’re going to concentrate on after work point is done is getting the building watertight,” one speaker said.
The project team reported extra rock and testing needs due to soil conditions and said the fire suppression bid is due Aug. 19 with bids opening at 2 p.m.; the team expects to return to the board on Aug. 26 with a recommendation to award. The representatives said three to four contractors were expected to bid the fire-suppression scope.
The team also described coordination with Venture Architects and state inspectors and noted third-party testing is in place for concrete and weld inspections. No contract awards were made at the meeting; staff will bring recommendations to the board after the bid opening.
