Page County engineer reports bridge inspections, grant applications and equipment repairs

Page County Engineer JD King updated the Board of Supervisors on bridge inspections, ongoing maintenance, and pending grant applications.

King said staff and a bridge consultant used a snooper truck to inspect five bridges and that office engineers are preparing project paperwork and project development for upcoming bridge work. He told the board the county has submitted a federal fiscal year 25 competitive highway bridge project application to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and a bridge investment program grant to a local review committee (named in the transcript as ICEA committee).

King identified bridge candidates: “the bridge candidate for the CHBP 2 is the 1 on Redwood by a Hundred And Eightieth Street. 1 for the VIP is on the Stanton Road at A Hundred And Ninetieth Street over Snake Creek.” He said the county should hear about the FHWA application in the fall.

On equipment and maintenance, King reported a single-axle truck that had tipped over during winter is back in service and that the motor grader No. 7 will be serviced this week. He said an international tandem is in Omaha for a radiator repair and that staff will clean and repaint bulk tanks and update placards.

Roadwork operations: King described spray patching on Sleepy Hollow (south of Shenandoah), routine rock deliveries, and pipe work delayed by rain. He told supervisors crews typically stop grading when rain persists but may be caught out if rain begins while crews are working.

Why it matters: The bridge grant applications could fund major local repairs if approved; equipment repairs and staffing directly affect road service levels. King said the county filed its annual report to the DOT for fiscal year 25 and will present that to the board after DOT review.
