The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Board on Wednesday approved its annual memorandum of understanding with Community Development for the Walker Street Community Garden for the term Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Staff said the agreement mirrors the MOU the board has approved annually since 2018 and reflects only a date change; the board packet also reported a remaining balance for garden projects of about $51,579. “We also added in how much funding we have left to spend on the garden. Right now, it's at $51,579 and some change,” the staff presenter said, noting planned projects that include a larger workshed, possible greenhouses and a small orchard.
The board approved the MOU by motion and voice vote with no public objection. Staff said a year‑end report on the garden’s events and programing will be delivered in October.
