Commissioners approve $182,000 transfer to replace devices ahead of end of Windows 10 support

At the Sept. 2 session, the Board of Commissioners approved resolution 287, a budget transfer that consolidates capital contingency funds across county departments to fund replacement of computers ahead of the planned end of Windows 10 support. County staff said the transfer totals $182,000 and draws modest amounts from many departments’ capital contingency accounts to finance new Windows 11-compatible hardware and related upgrades.
County IT and administration staff described the change as necessary because Windows 10 will no longer receive vendor support, including virus-protection updates. Commissioners said they reviewed options and agreed replacement with Windows 11 was the appropriate response. The motion passed by roll call with all commissioners voting in the affirmative.
Staff and the controller are scheduled to coordinate procurement; the board asked departments to cooperate as machines are replaced.
