Park staff told the Park Board on Aug. 21 that the new playground equipment for Payne Park has been ordered, will be delivered to the site the week of Aug. 27 and is scheduled for installation just after Labor Day.
The board was told there was one design change from the version shown at the previous meeting: "The swings that have, the 2 swings on them. 1 of the swings is gonna be an expression swing," the parks staff member said. The staff member explained the expression swing allows two people to use it at once and that the addition followed a neighbor's request.
Board members asked about tree removal and replanting. The parks staff member said trees currently at the playground would be removed when installation begins and that staff planned to find planting spots in Province Park or another location nearby. "No. We're letting them grow. Just to make it a little bit harder to get them out. No. They'll come out probably next week too when the stuff gets delivered," the staff member said.
The parks staff member said staff hoped the playground would be complete by the next board meeting. There was no formal board vote required for the purchase update; the report was provided as an update on ongoing capital work.
