The Okaloosa County School Board recognized two Destin Middle School eighth-graders for statewide achievements: Kate Ginezzo, a 2025 Florida Youth Running Association javelin state champion, and Noah Finkler, 2025 Florida state champion in the National Civics Bee who will compete at the national level.
At the start of the meeting Superintendent Chambers introduced both students and praised the coaches, families and school staff who supported their development. For Ginezzo, speakers including the school principal and former coaches described her as a steady, disciplined athlete who has excelled since elementary school. For Finkler, Superintendent Chambers noted the county’s civics program and said the student advanced from local competition to win the state title and will travel to Washington, D.C., for nationals on Nov. 11.
Nut graf: The recognitions highlighted district programs (athletics and civics instruction) and the role of school coaches and families in student achievement, with board members praising the students and pointing to civics coursework required by the state.
Quotes and context included direct remarks from board members and school leaders. Board Chair Dr. White said the county’s recent run of state champions reflects broad support, and board member Miss Vanchet asked Finkler to explain why civic education mattered; Finkler responded, “If we educate the public on how to use their rights and how to participate in the government, it helps our democracy actually work.”
Ending: The board presented brief remarks and photos; staff and family members joined the students at the dais.
