The Okaloosa County School Board on unanimous votes approved scope modifications and guaranteed maximum price (GMP) changes for several capital projects, and heard a construction status report outlining progress across district schools. The board approved a scope modification and GMP for the Ruckle Middle School and Plew Elementary cafeteria renovations, a scope modification and GMP at Meggs Middle School, and a GMP for the Niceville High School band-room roof replacement; each motion passed 4–0.

Construction representative Mister Heimlich briefed the board on active task orders funded by sales tax and 1.5 capital monies. He said Edwin’s Elementary cafeteria renovations remain underway with window deliveries expected in October or November and a target completion date of Dec. 25; a new GMP for Ruckle and Plew was presented to the board for approval. Heimlich reported the restroom/concession building at Lewis School is complete and noted progress at Pineview K–8, Destin Elementary and Baker School, calling the Pineview project “going vertical” and on schedule for an Aug. 26 completion. He said Niceville High, Crestview and other schools are advancing with interior work finished and exterior site work continuing.

Board members and staff discussed task order 24 (boardroom/phase 3) and whether parking-lot overlays or full replacements would be required; staff said decisions about adding the parking work to a task order had not been finalized and that any parking work would likely use 1.5 funds. The construction representative said a GMP for Meggs Middle School’s roof and bathroom work would be added to the agenda that night and the board subsequently approved that GMP.

What this means: Projects funded through sales tax, COP and 1.5 capital funds will proceed under the approved GMPs; staff will administer contracts and continuing construction oversight.
