Lily Pendleton, who identified herself with Queer Haven Indiana and Gender Nexus Indie, requested the council “pass a resolution declaring Lafayette a safe place for providers and recipients of gender‑affirming care,” and noted that such care also encompasses hormone treatments commonly used for menopause, certain cancers and other medical conditions.
Speakers invited the council to sponsor the resolution and urged action to protect access to care locally. Supporters said local patients and providers rely on accessible care and that threats at higher levels of government could disrupt services and force patients to relocate.
Council did not act on the request during the meeting; several council members acknowledged the public comments and said staff would be available to discuss next steps if a councilmember is willing to sponsor a formal resolution for future consideration.
