The City of Lafayette Redevelopment Commission approved Supplement No. 1 to the design contract with V3 (listed in the meeting as “v 3”/“b 3 companies”) to advance intersection and signal work on McCarty Lane.
City Engineer Jeremy Grenard described the supplement as necessary after initial traffic analysis and preliminary design work. “The original contract was signed by RDC in 11/15/2024. It included surveying, traffic analysis, traffic signal warrant analysis, and then, design for 2 traffic signals on McCarty Lane,” Grenard said. He said the supplement adds additional surveying, a drainage subconsultant (Wessler Engineering), and funds to prepare a separate bid package so the city can bid two McCarty signals this year and phase the widening design for later bidding.
Grenard said the supplement is $89,700 and brings the total contract to $301,700. He described the intended phasing: purchase signal poles and mast arms for the two McCarty intersections, bid the signals and associated realignment of West Cat Park Drive to align with the public works campus this fall or early winter, and later bid the McCarty widening that will include a left-turn lane between the two signals. “By phasing the project that way, it'll allow us to coordinate the signal and access improvements that we need in the short term, but keep moving forward with the design and the background for that widening,” he said.
Commissioners asked about timeline and cost; Grenard reiterated the plan to bid the signals in the near term and continue design for the widening. A motion to approve the supplement was moved and seconded and passed on a voice vote.
Why it matters: the supplement allows the city to accelerate signal installation at two McCarty Lane intersections and to sequence the wider roadway work so signals remain in place during later construction phases.
What’s next: staff to proceed with procurement of signal poles/mast arms and to advertise the first bid package for the two McCarty signals; widening design and second bid package to follow once plans are complete.
