The Gulf County Board of County Commissioners voted to waive the rental fee for the Honeyville Community Center so the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) can hold a fundraising event to support domestic violence awareness and victim services.

Leanne Coulter, civic chair for the GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club, told the commission the group will host a pearls‑and‑purses designer‑purse bingo fundraiser on Sept. 20 and will collect donated items for the Salvation Army domestic violence division and Port St. Joe resources. “This year on 09/27/2025, our signature project is domestic violence awareness and prevention,” Coulter said. She asked the board to waive the Honeyville Community Center rental fee so proceeds could be directed to program support.

The board moved and seconded the waiver and approved the request. Commissioner McMonroe made the motion to waive the fee; Commissioner Hilsman seconded. The chair announced, “Motion passed 5.”

Why it matters: The waiver reduces event costs for the volunteer group and is intended to increase funds and donated items available to local domestic‑violence support services during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
