Commissioners agree $300,000 per district for paving list; Henry Avenue bid awarded to low bidder

The Board of County Commissioners voted Aug. 26 to allocate an initial $300,000 to each commissioner for local paving priorities and directed public-works and county administration to rank the remaining projects from a consolidated master list. Commissioners asked staff to present a prioritized list and to consult Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) where projects might fit into FDOT's five-year work program. The motion passed 5-0.
On the same day the board received a bid opening for County bid 2425-25 (Henry Avenue). Four bidders submitted; the apparent low responsive bidder was Roberts & Roberts Inc. with a base bid of $300,817.43. The board voted to award the contract to the low bidder contingent on final administrative review and staff recommendation; the vote passed 4-0 with one abstention (Commissioner Mons abstained because of a conflict). County staff noted that final award documents and administration review remain prerequisites to contract execution.
Commissioners emphasized transparency: they asked for lists tying funding to completed projects and suggested public documentation and before/after photos once projects are complete. Staff said design, surveying and state coordination will be required for larger projects and that a September–October timeline was realistic for an initial prioritized list from commissioners.
