Hampshire County commissioners voted Aug. 26 to proceed with contracting for a commercial appraisal of the Hampshire Center healthcare facility and instructed Commissioner Bridal and the clerk to finalize arrangements with Keyes Valuation.
Commissioner Bridal explained that appraisals for retirement/healthcare properties are specialized and that she had contacted several appraisers before locating Kara Keyes, who indicated she could deliver an appraisal in about 30 days at a cost of $5,800. Bridal said Keyes had checked with the ethics commission and confirmed she could perform work for another county even though she serves on a Jefferson County commission.
Commissioners agreed the appraisal was a reasonable expense to inform any potential sale negotiation; a voice vote approved the county moving forward with Keyes Valuation and authorizing Bridal and the clerk to set up a contract.
The appraisal will provide an independent valuation to assist the commission in deliberations about the future of the Hampshire Center; no sale or transfer decision was taken at the meeting.
