The Cookeville City Council on Sept. 4 approved authorization for the city manager to enter into a contract with Tay’s Realty and Auction LLC to provide an internet‑only auction service for the sale of court‑awarded firearms. Chief Winfrey presented the request. Chief Winfrey told council Tay’s Realty and Auction would handle online auctions for items the court has awarded for sale. He said the firm’s compensation would be a 10 percent buyer’s premium and a 10 percent seller’s commission for items sold. The council moved and approved the authorization. City staff said the contract would establish the vendor’s fees and the process for listing and selling court‑awarded firearms; the police department will coordinate disposal and transfer consistent with applicable law and court orders.
