Diane Sellers, board president of Arts Inc., addressed the council during public participation and said MAT Camp recently concluded with strong participation: "We had 160 students this year, 28 teachers," she said, noting many instructors were local and that a lodging program is expanding to bring out-of-town students to Evanston. Sellers also reported that the Celtic Festival manager resigned unexpectedly and that the organization is re-advertising the position but remains committed to holding the festival.
Councilors said they support the programmatic funding and noted prior budgeted amounts for music camp and festival activities. The resolution authorizes the city's agreement consistent with appropriations approved in the budget; one councilor recused from the vote as noted on the record.
The council approved the agreement by voice vote. Arts Inc. invited the public to a chamber mixer on Aug. 11 at Mountain Music to showcase student performances and program highlights.
