The District 128 Board of Education on Aug. 25 approved a multi-day Daring Ed College and Culture tour for October 2025 that will combine college visits with cultural and historical site visits in Washington, D.C.
Why it matters: The district described the tour as part of a broader effort to expose students to multiple postsecondary paths, including college options, career treks and trade-related opportunities.
Tom, a district staff member who presented the proposal, said the tour is the first multi-day experience in a larger set of offerings called Daring Ed tours. "This is the first time we're doing a multi day experience, and we look forward to building more of these opportunities around student interests in the future," Tom said. The committee that developed the tour made adjustments after board feedback at earlier meetings and provided an updated itinerary to the board.
A motion to approve the October 2025 tour passed by roll call. One board member asked staff to provide families information earlier in the planning process so families can plan for the year; staff agreed to incorporate that suggestion into communications.
What happens next: Staff said they will begin promoting the tour to students if approved and will coordinate logistics and further communications with families.
