Mayor Sackman told the council on Sept. 4 that several public-works projects are in active construction or design and gave updated timelines for completion.
Sackman said the city was "about 3 to 4 days away from finalizing the sidewalks" near a Tarrant Housing Authority neighborhood and that street milling and filling work is expected to continue through Oct. 31. He described the Thirteenth and Wabash and Hertz Rose Park projects as on schedule for October completion and said Ray Park Clubhouse is expected by May 2026.
On Deming Park Pool, Sackman said designs are nearly complete and the project will go to bid but that the pool will likely remain closed through much of next year. "At this point in time, I really doubt that the pool will be open for much of next year," Sackman said, adding that the city plans internal demolition to reduce costs and will prioritize summer construction where possible.
Sackman also reported that work has begun on the YMCA pool component but that larger exterior and gym renovations have not started. He said supply-timing for some equipment affects phasing and that crews are making progress on Coy Park and neighborhood-park upgrades.
During council questions, staff clarified that a federally funded congestion mitigation project at Thirteenth and Wabash included a left-turn arrow and turn-lane lengthening; officials said the funding flowed through INDOT and the metropolitan planning organization (MPO).
The mayor invited questions and noted upcoming public budget hearings on Sept. 11 and additional meetings to discuss sanitary budgets and budget work between the mayor, controller and council.
