The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 9 to dispose of the former county health building at 522 North Third Street in Burlington by sealed bid, setting a minimum bid of $125,000. The board first discussed the property in closed session under Iowa Code section 21.5, which permits closed deliberations on the purchase or sale of particular real estate.
The sealed-bid sale was authorized by adoption of Resolution 2025-47. The board introduced and approved the resolution at the public meeting; a motion to adopt the resolution passed with affirmative votes recorded for Supervisors Shane McCampbell, Tom Brogan and Jim Carey. The resolution describes the property as Lot Number 241 and the north 20 feet 7 inches of Lot 242 in the original city of Burlington, subject to a 15-foot maintenance and retaining-wall access assessment.
The board opened and closed a closed-session meeting earlier in the agenda to discuss the property’s minimum sale price and other negotiation details. At the public meeting, staff said the minimum sealed-bid amount determined in closed session would be $125,000 and that sealed-bid instructions and notice would be published as required.
Board members did not take additional action on the price in open session. No purchaser was named at the meeting; the resolution directs staff to proceed with the sealed-bid process.
The board also recorded several routine personnel actions and departmental reports that had been listed on the agenda before the public discussion of the property and the vote on the resolution.
