Sutherlin council adopts $42.0 million city budget for 2025–26

The Sutherlin City Council on May 12 adopted Resolution 2025.09 to adopt the city’s fiscal year 2025–26 budget in the total amount of $42,045,288, as approved earlier by the budget committee.
Tammy Trowbridge, the city finance director, said the budget committee approved the $42,045,288 figure on May 19 and reiterated that this adoption is the second of two required public hearings prior to the council’s consideration. The council opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers on the adoption.
Because of a disclosed conflict, Councilor Lisa Woods abstained from the police-budget vote; the council split the budget adoption into separate votes for the police budget and the remaining city budget. The police budget was adopted with votes from other council members; Woods formally declared the conflict because a relative works in the police department and abstained from that section. The remaining portions of the budget were then adopted; the final recorded vote on the full remaining budget showed the motion carried, with Woods recorded as having abstained from the section where she had the conflict.
The council’s adoption completes the statutory process for the city budget and permits staff to levy property taxes and proceed with appropriations for the July 1 start of the fiscal year.
