Key elements include a 90-day default pumping interval for grease interceptors and a limit that grease may not exceed 25% of the interceptor’s total volume; businesses that produce less grease may apply for a variance.
Public works staff said they will perform inspections and educational outreach; routine cases will be handled by wastewater supervisors, with escalations brought to utilities staff. The ordinance mirrors practices used by larger cities and is coupled with a local education program with pamphlets and site visits.
Council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on first reading; staff said they would return for a subsequent reading and refine enforcement steps and waiver procedures where appropriate.
