The Williamsville Central School District presented its preliminary elementary class-size report at the Sept. 9 board meeting and said most classes are within the board’s historical ranges, with one grade level at one school slightly above the range.
Superintendent Dr. Brownhall said the board had established target class‑size ranges in prior years and that the preliminary report — provided in the board packet as item 5C — shows average class sizes for each elementary and middle school. "You will see that all of our class sizes are within range, some below range. We do have 1 grade level at 1 of our schools that is above range. And what we do there is we provide additional aide support so that the student teacher ratio is still maintained in those classes," he said.
Board members asked whether the numbers change through the year; the superintendent explained class sizes fluctuate as families move in and out of the district but typically do not swing dramatically. The report was provided at the start of the school year for transparency, Brownhall said, and the district will continue to update the board as enrollment changes.
No enrollment or dollar figures were disclosed in the presentation; the board packet contains the detailed tables showing averages by grade and school.
