The Williamsville Central School District Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 9 to refer Policy 57‑10 — the district’s transportation program policy that governs designated bus stops — to the board’s policy committee for review.
A board member raised community concerns about designated bus stops typically placed at corners or near fire hydrants and asked the policy committee to examine whether those locations remain the safest option in neighborhoods without sidewalks. "So my motion is to send policy 57 10 regarding transportation program to the policy committee for review," the board member said. The motion was seconded by Dr. Spicer and passed without objection.
Dr. Spicer added that his own experience riding district buses this fall has shown improved efficiency under the new routing system. Trustees asked administrators to have the policy committee explore potential guardrails and safety guidance and to report recommendations back to the full board at a future meeting.
The referral does not change existing bus stop instructions or routes; it instructs the policy committee to present findings and any recommended policy changes for full board consideration.
