At the Sept. 8 meeting student board representatives told the Board of Education that the district's cell-phone policy rollout has been working and that early-season athletics saw strong student and community turnout.
"The cell phone policy...has been going incredibly well," said Winter, a student board representative, adding that she had observed students "happier" and more engaged in class. Another student representative, who identified themself as Ash, said the district has used wall lockers "from beginning bell to end bell" and called that approach "the most successful" of several tactics used to keep phones away during the day.
Emma, another student representative, said athletics have been well attended and that the district's varsity teams won early contests. She said a small number of students had been referred to administration for policy violations but that, overall, the policy had reduced conflicts.
The student remarks focused on day-to-day experience and did not include requests for immediate board action; the board did not announce any policy changes at the Sept. 8 meeting.
