Washington County’s Health and Human Services committee on Aug. 27 approved accepting $87,685 in state funds to pass through for mental‑health and addiction services and advanced a memorandum of agreement to use opioid settlement funds for clinical services contracted by the sheriff’s office.
The committee heard that the $87,685 request would allow the county to accept and pass through 100% state funds received from the Office of Mental Health and the Office of Addiction Services and Supports. Jim moved the budget amendment; Sam seconded and the committee voted in favor.
Separately the committee reviewed a memorandum of agreement for $175,000 in opioid settlement funds submitted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The department said the sheriff’s office requested a contract with an emergency‑department treatment center to provide clinical services. The committee voted to approve the memorandum of agreement.
Committee members also received a midyear report on CPL 730 expenses—costs the county incurs to comply with Criminal Procedure Law §730 psychiatric examinations. Staff reported chargeable psychiatric and psychological examiner expenses through June and flagged unpaid balances. The county reported approximately $158,006.33 in CPL‑related expenses that have been incurred but not yet paid; staff additionally said a July bill totaled $50,600. The department described variability in monthly costs and said some exams are performed locally while others use regional facilities such as Mid‑Hudson.
Board members asked for more detailed breakdowns by facility and by case type to identify trends and better forecast future expenses.
