Washington County’s Health and Human Services committee on Aug. 27 voted to recognize several grant awards, move a WIC line item to fund a new copier and allow limited use of the county logo for outreach materials.
The department asked the committee to add four grants to the 2025 budget and explained how each would be used. Public health staff said a child passenger safety grant of $11,500 would buy car seats and pay fees for a car‑seat technician to recertify. The committee approved adding the award to the budget.
The department also asked the committee to add a 2025 early intervention administrative grant of $41,171 to cover administrative expenses for the early intervention program; Dana moved the recognition, Jim seconded, and the motion passed. A $1,000 Walmart Sparks grant was approved to purchase emergency airbags and will be added to the disease control account; the department said the program must reapply for that funding each quarter. The committee also recognized a Public Health Emergency Preparedness grant of $26,050 with an effective date of July 1, 2025.
Separately, the committee approved a WIC budget reclassification that moves $5,000 from one internal WIC line (point ones) to another (point twos) to buy a multifunction copier; public health staff said the replacement is 100% grant funded and that IT and purchasing had been consulted. Jim moved and Scott seconded that resolution, and members voted in favor.
The department also requested permission to spend up to $750 on incentive items bearing the county logo for Halloween outreach tied to lead‑poisoning prevention. The committee approved use of the logo and the department clarified that the items would be fully funded by the lead grant.
The committee’s votes on the items were taken individually; each request was approved by voice vote.
