Ulster County OKs $600,000 HVAC capital project and installation contract for county office cooling towers

The Public Works and Capital Projects Committee on Aug. 11 approved Capital Project No. 7382020202025, a $600,000 bond-funded HVAC/weatherization project to replace cooling towers at the County Office Building, and separately approved a contract with Collat Mechanical Service, Inc. to perform installation work.
Legislator McCullough moved adoption of the capital project; the measure passed on a committee vote. The project is intended to replace cooling towers to improve energy efficiency.
The committee then considered Resolution No. 399, approving a $273,400 contract with Collat Mechanical Service, Inc. for installation of at least one of the cooling towers referenced in the capital project. The contract was moved by Legislator McCullough and seconded by Legislator Donaldson. The resolution passed with one abstention; Legislator Litts abstained for reasons of employment.
County staff said the capital project will require bonding; the administration will bring required budget amendment language and bond authorization to the legislature as part of the 2025 capital fund budget process.
A separate engineering services resolution related to HVAC work was not discussed in detail; no additional conditions were recorded on the installation contract during the committee meeting.
