County adds items to accept national opioid settlement funds and votes to participate
Summary
Following an executive session, supervisors added and approved three resolutions authorizing Saratoga County to participate in national opioid manufacturer and distributor settlements, including the Purdue/Sackler and Sandoz settlements; exact county payments to be received were listed as to be determined by settlement referees.
After returning from an executive session on pending litigation, the Law & Finance Committee on Aug. 13 added three items to the agenda and approved resolutions authorizing Saratoga County to participate in national opioid settlement agreements and accept settlement funds.
The three added items authorize the county to: (1) participate in the eight opioid manufacturers national settlements, (2) participate in the Purdue Pharma and Sackler family national settlement agreement, and (3) participate in the Sandoz Inc. national opioid settlement agreement. County staff materials note that participation will result in the receipt of settlement funds to be determined by the settlement referees and that no county funds are being committed as part of these resolutions.
A supervisor motion to add the items was seconded and the committee unanimously voted to add and approve the resolutions. County materials included a notation that the exact allocation the county will receive under each settlement is to be determined by the settlement administration process. No dollar amounts were specified at the meeting.
Staff noted that next steps include formally adding the items to the upcoming full board meeting agenda for action and processing settlements through the county’s administrative procedures. The committee voted to approve the additions and the items as read into the record.
