WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Wimberley City Council proclaimed September 2025 as Hunger Action Month on Sept. 4, and a representative of the Hays County Food Bank described a newly opened client‑choice facility and a community cereal drive.
The food bank representative said the Central Texas Food Bank’s data covers 17 counties with about 3,356,000 people and that roughly 612,000 of those residents are food insecure, figures the representative cited from a regional briefing. “So 1 in 5 neighbors are kind of food insecure,” the representative said.
The speaker described the Hays County Food Bank’s new site in the former Hays County Barbecue building on the frontage road near I‑35, calling it a visible, market‑style facility where clients choose items rather than receiving a prepacked box. “Being able to choose what they take home is a huge boon to a lot of our clients,” the representative said, and added that clients have received up to 80 pounds of food at a time during some distributions.
For Hunger Action Month the food bank is collecting cereal countywide and encouraging local drives. The representative said the agency now receives food deliveries multiple times a week — citing roughly 7,000 pounds per week from partner distributions — and noted that donations and volunteer support remain important.
The proclamation and presentation did not create a city funding commitment; the council offered the proclamation in recognition of the month and local partners used the occasion to publicize the food bank’s needs and operations.
