Council approves monthly farmers market at Tractor Supply with fire-lane condition

The City of Angleton on May 13 approved Ordinance 20250513-027 granting a specific use permit for a monthly farmers and community market at the Tractor Supply property at 2916 North Velasco Street.
Planning staff said the proposal allows vending once per month on the second Saturday from 4–8 p.m. Tractor Supply representatives told council they would not charge vendors fees and aim to provide a community gathering. The planning commission recommended approval 6–0 with conditions limiting hours, preserving fire‑lane and access lanes, and making the permit a two‑year authorization subject to renewal.
During the public hearing, Tractor Supply representatives said they would adjust booth locations to avoid fire lanes and could move booths onto grass as needed. Council members asked about parking capacity; staff and the applicant said available grass area and parking were adequate. Councilmember Sarton asked that staff verify fire-lane clearance during events.
Mayor Pro Tem Townsend moved to approve the specific use permit with the planning commission’s conditions; Councilman Smith seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote. The permit is set for a two-year term at which point council will review the use and may convert it to an annual allowance if impacts are acceptable.
