Staff presented a proposal at the May 31 meeting for a sponsorship program to support TxDOT traffic-control cabinet art wraps. Under the proposal, a sponsor would pay a one-time $2,000 fee that would apply to an artwork installation and a three-year recognition package. “What I'm proposing is that we put together a sponsorship program that would be a $2,000 sponsorship, that would be for a 3 year, program,” the staff member said. Staff said the city would avoid placing sponsor names on the cabinets because the cabinets are TxDOT property and would require TxDOT approval; instead, staff proposed listing sponsors on the program website and posting annual social-media recognition for each of the three years. The staff member said the city will solicit artists and sponsors and that the solicitation is scheduled to publish the following day and run through October; staff asked board members to share the announcement. Staff also said the program is planning to wrap three cabinets this year, located near B-2-D and Henderson Road, Highway 35 at Hospital Drive, and Highway 35 at South Walker. No contract or formal sponsorship agreement was approved at the meeting; the discussion was to gather feedback ahead of the solicitation and TxDOT coordination.
