The EMS Advisory Council on Aug. 27 voted to recommend a draft job description for a county EMS coordinator to the Webster County Board of Supervisors, and asked county human resources to review the description for formal posting. The recommendation passed by voice vote at the council meeting.
The draft, prepared with input from Fort Dodge personnel, describes a coordinator role focused on advising county EMS directors rather than replacing local leadership. The description emphasizes paramedic certification, the ability to respond to calls, assistance with billing and state inspections, training support and supply acquisition; it removes broader personnel-management duties found in some fire-department supervisor positions.
Council members said the intent is for the coordinator to serve as a day-to-day liaison and adviser to local EMS agencies and the council, with the Board of Supervisors retaining final authority. The council asked that the draft be submitted to county HR for formal review and that the coordinator’s duties and funding be reflected in the budget and the 28E framework being developed. Council members noted the job description is a draft and may be adjusted during recruitment and HR review.
The council did not set a hiring timeline at the meeting. Members said hiring could take weeks to months and that the county finance and HR processes will govern final timing. The council listed preparing the HR submission as a next step before the position can be posted.
