The Marshall Public Schools Board approved a technology server and storage upgrade intended to modernize the district data center and create redundancy between Marshall and Albion, reducing single points of failure.
The technology department recommended contracting Moss (also stylized in materials as MOS) for the work. The total project cost is $125,129.28; $113,579.28 will be paid from the sinking fund and $11,550 from the general fund. The board accepted the low bid and approved the project (motion to approve by Matt Davis, supported by Mark Mihalka).
District staff said the existing equipment has performed well but lacks redundancy: if one site loses power today, other sites can be affected. The upgrade is intended to allow one campus to remain online if the other loses power, improving reliability for Internet‑dependent services such as phones and instructional technology. Staff also said some existing equipment can be repurposed for future needs.
During discussion trustees asked when a comparable upgrade was last made; staff indicated it had been about four to five years since a similar upgrade. The technology department representative said addressing the single points of failure has been a long‑standing priority.
The board voted unanimously to approve the purchase and directed staff to proceed with the vendor contracting and project scheduling.
