Board approves new teachers, counselor, athletic trainer, security monitor and assistant coaches effective Aug. 20

The Woodhaven-Brownstown Board of Education on Tuesday approved a slate of professional and support staff hires and a group of schedule B coaching appointments, all with an effective date of Aug. 20, 2025.

Board member Berry made motions to approve the professional, support and schedule B employments; several motions were seconded by board colleagues and approved by voice vote. Superintendent Greathead introduced the professional hires and gave brief background on each candidate.

The professional employments approved were Aubrey Banning as GSRP lead teacher at (Wigink) Elementary School, Kelsey Littleton as half-time counselor at Woodhaven Upper Elementary School, and Tim Veil as the district athletic trainer. Greathead said Littleton is completing a master’s in school counseling from Central Michigan University and will complete her internship during the 2025–26 school year; he said Banning has more than 10 years of school experience including GSRP positions in Monroe County ISD and Van Buren Public Schools.

The board approved Devin Newbill as a Woodhaven High School security monitor (support staff). The board also approved schedule B employments for fall athletics, effective Aug. 20: Brandon Crane (eighth-grade football assistant), Castile Kemyek (middle school cross-country assistant), Audrey Nichols (eighth-grade volleyball assistant), Mary Eve Pepin (varsity girls cross-country head coach), Larry Sackless (seventh-grade football assistant), and Nicholas Smith (varsity boys soccer assistant).

Motions to approve these employments passed by voice vote; the board did not record individual roll-call tallies in the meeting transcript. Greathead and board members welcomed the new hires and thanked them for joining the district ahead of the school year.
