Board adopts five superintendent goals; sixth goal sent back for refinement

The Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education voted to adopt five superintendent goals for the 2025-26 year and to return a sixth goal on belonging to committee for further refinement. Superintendent Rick West presented six draft goals that the board's committees had reviewed. The five goals approved at the meeting focus on: establishing a district strategic plan by June 2026; developing a student growth assessment plan; implementing an executive staff evaluation process; creating a comprehensive long-term facilities plan tied to the sinking fund; and instituting a process to reach a balanced budget for 2026-27. The board approved those five goals for the superintendent to pursue. Trustees discussed the sixth goal, which addresses belonging and culture. Several trustees supported measuring belonging through a district climate/culture survey and creating specific, measurable targets; others asked that the goal be redrafted to be more specific about metrics and populations to be surveyed. The board agreed to send the belonging goal back to the appropriate committee for refinement and to consider adopting it at a later meeting. Superintendent West said he was comfortable with the five adopted goals and noted the administration would develop measurement approaches and timelines. The board's action was intended to give the superintendent clear objectives to guide work for the year.
