The Alpena City Council on June 2 approved an allocation of up to $750 for a Community Appreciation Day planned for June 25, 2025.
Human Resources Director Cathy Hines described the event as a community celebration to thank volunteers and residents who assisted city operations during a recent ice storm and to recognize ongoing community support. The event is scheduled for June 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn of City Hall, with an inside rain plan to use council chambers.
Hines said the planned budget would cover modest refreshments (coffee, hot dogs, chips and donated baked goods) and that staff had consulted with the city attorney regarding allowable purchases for a public event. Council members moved, supported and approved the allocation not to exceed $750.
The city asked council members to attend and indicated staff would follow up with individual members about participation details.
