Harbor staff reported that water and electrical service at the Alpena marina will be restored May 7 and May 8, and crews are rebuilding gangways and repairing courtesy docks to support Alpena Youth Sailing and transient boat use. Staff also said the marina will close about eight trailering spots from May 20–23 to accommodate competitors in a ‘Triple Challenge’ unmanned-vehicle competition.
The Harbor Master summarized the immediate work and short-term event plans at the meeting. “Water and electrical will be back on May 7 and May 8,” the Harbor Master said. “We are actively rebuilding the gangways and things on the courtesy docks for Alpena Youth Sailing and other transient use.”
The Harbor Master asked for civic-group input on projects for the next three to five years and said most planned work is aesthetic repairs. The Harbor Master also reported the main water main has been fixed.
On event planning, a staff member said they will “be closing off about 8 trailering spots for the Triple Challenge so that competitors can launch.” Meeting participants discussed using the yacht club as a green room for visiting competitors and guests, with the Harbor Master saying the arrangement was acceptable provided it “doesn’t interrupt bridge” operations and that staff notify the named contact. The Harbor Master identified several outside organizations expected to be involved or present for the event, including MEDC, CRTC and the National Guard, and mentioned the governor’s office in that context.
The meeting chair scheduled the next meeting for June 5 and the group approved the meeting agenda and prior minutes before adjourning.
The discussion combined near-term infrastructure repairs, multi-year project planning and operational steps for a multi-day event that will temporarily alter marina parking and launch access. No funding amounts, permit requirements, or formal authorizations for the event were specified during the discussion.
