Board approves purchase of 3-point mounted disc mower to increase roadside mowing efficiency

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a 2025 three-point mounted disc mower to be used with county tractors for roadside mowing. County staff said the eight-foot mower is expected to allow crews to cover more ground and reduce wear on aging machinery because it is PTO driven rather than hydraulic. The county engineer reported several nearby counties use similar mowers with positive results; the mower’s lubrication design keeps oil at each disc hub when operating on slopes, staff said. Supervisors moved and seconded the purchase and approved it by voice vote. Staff said they are also pricing a new tractor to replace an aging unit and will determine which tractor will receive the new mower after monitoring upcoming mowing work and equipment availability.
