Wynnewoods board member Viola Johnson resigns after nearly 12 years; board declares seat vacant

The Wynnewoods City School Board on Aug. 25 accepted the resignation of Dr. Viola Johnson, a board member since Jan. 1, 2014, and unanimously adopted a resolution declaring her seat vacant.
President Smith read the notification and the board voted to accept Dr. Johnson's resignation effective Aug. 31. Trustees lauded Johnson's years of service: President Smith and other members thanked her for a decade-plus of district leadership, noting her role in curriculum initiatives and campus projects.
Following the resignation vote, the board approved the attached resolution to declare the vacancy, and President Smith said the board will discuss assigning a replacement to represent the district on the Great Oaks board at a future work session. The Great Oaks report included notice that the district's current Great Oaks representative, former board member Jeff Burdie, is ending his service and the board will need to appoint a successor.
Board members offered personal tributes in the meeting's public record. No appointment was made at the Aug. 25 meeting; the board indicated it will address selection procedures and timing at the next work session.
