Winton Woods joins statewide coalition opposing school vouchers; board approves authorization

The Winton Woods board voted unanimously July 28 to authorize district leaders to join the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy, a statewide group that coordinates legal and advocacy efforts opposing school voucher expansion.
Treasurer Randy Seymour explained the resolution would give him and Superintendent Denny authority to join the coalition; the annual dues are $2 per pupil. Seymour said Winton Woods has been a member since the coalition’s inception and that member districts work together to defend the constitutionality of vouchers.
Board members spoke in favor of protecting funding for public schools. “We believe in public education or we wouldn't be here,” one board member said in discussion. The motion to adopt the voucher joint resolution passed unanimously.
The vote authorizes district participation and payment of the dues; the board did not take additional legal action beyond the membership authorization at this meeting.
