Deep Lakes Campground work moves toward paving; fall trial opening uncertain

County staff briefed the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors that asphalt paving at Deep Lakes Campground is scheduled to begin Sept. 8, with staking, electrical conduit work and plumbing connections ongoing. Contractors are coordinating power and water connections; staff cautioned timing is a moving target because power de-energizing needs to be coordinated with utility providers. Staff said the electrician is pulling wires and the well contractor and plumber are making connections at the utility and well control rooms. County staff reported they had hoped for a short trial opening this fall to evaluate water and wastewater flows, but said that outcome is “questionable” and not assured at this time. No formal board vote was required; staff provided the schedule update as part of routine project reporting. Supervisors thanked staff and noted interest from the public in the campground’s opening.
