District details central-office parking, baseball field variance request and scoreboard repairs

Wynnewoods staff reported progress on a new central-office parking area to be paved, said they will seek a variance to allow a 35-foot baseball backstop, and described troubleshooting on the stadium jumbotron and incoming scoreboard materials.
Wynnewoods City Schools officials on Aug. 25 updated the board on several facilities projects, including a nearly finished central-office parking area, a planned variance request for a taller baseball backstop and work to repair the stadium's jumbotron.
Jeremy Day, executive director of business affairs, told trustees that contractors have completed sitework and planned to lay asphalt the following day for the central-office parking lot; the project also includes light poles and an electrical run for a future sign. Day said the district paid to have the electrical run added now to avoid remobilization costs.
On athletics, day-to-day field work is underway for baseball-field renovations but the district has not yet received building permits. Day said the district will request a variance from the city planning commission to raise the permitted backstop height from 25 feet to 35 feet for spectator and vehicle safety; he planned to meet the planning commission on Sept. 9 to present the request.
Day reported intermittent failures with the stadium jumbotron. He said an out-of-area technician is expected to inspect the system because remote diagnostics did not resolve the problem. The district is also awaiting a replacement windscreen and scoreboard materials; expedited shipping is in use and permits for the scoreboard are in place.
Board members asked about an omitted "proof roll" requirement in the contractor's paving specification. Day said the proof roll testing was not in the initial bid package, that the district added an environmental sample test as an extra safeguard, and that he would raise the omitted proof-roll item with the contractor because the cost is relatively small and the test is a common paving practice.
The board expressed appreciation for the athletic improvements and Day said he would follow up on the planning commission meeting and the technician visit for the jumbotron.
