The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved change order No. 2 in the amount of $1,500 for additional exterior repairs to the county administration building. County staff reported that tuckpointing crews found two areas—about 30 square feet each—where brick had crumbled; the contract’s unit price was used to replace roughly 60 square feet total, and the work was approved on site for prompt repair.
Staff also briefed supervisors on several other facilities projects. Preconstruction for the Community Services Building will begin in about September; staff said coordination with the Department of Human Services and Community Services will be needed to stage ingress and egress while two ADA ramps are replaced sequentially. The jail project is nearing completion, with only punch-list items remaining.
To address cooling and comfort issues, staff said the county is taking bids to install a mini-split in the booking area and south lobby; the measure is intended to relieve pressure on the courthouse geothermal system. County facilities staff said there are three broader options to address geothermal heat shedding and that any major work would be discussed as a budget item, since it would be a significant expense.
The change order motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff emphasized that the administration building repairs are complete aside from a punch list, and that the Community Services Building construction will require staging plans to maintain ADA access during the work.
