The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to set a public hearing for 9 a.m. on Sept. 8 to consider rezoning approximately 75.57 acres in Moscow Township from A-1 agricultural to I-2 heavy industrial. County Development Director Eric Furnace told the board the county zoning commission made a favorable recommendation on the request last week.
The hearing will allow supervisors and the public to review the proposal and provide comment. The tract is described in existing materials as the Southwest Quarter, Section 8, Township 78 North, Range 2 West; staff said the property sits at the corner of Noble Avenue and Highway 6. Furnace said the zoning commission hearing drew “probably 15, 20” people but not as much input as expected.
Setting the hearing does not approve the rezoning; it schedules the formal public meeting where supervisors will receive additional testimony and can act. The request would change the applicable zoning district from A-1 (agricultural) to I-2 (heavy industrial), as defined by the county’s zoning designations; the board did not vote on rezoning itself at Monday’s meeting.
Supervisors took the procedural step by motion and voice vote; none registered opposition when the board called for ayes and nays. The matter will return to the board on Sept. 8 for public comment and possible action.
