Delhi Township trustees adopted a formal sidewalk repair and replacement policy at their Sept. 10 meeting that removes property‑owner assessments tied to township road rehabilitation projects.
Director Rippinger told the board the policy formalizes a practice the township has followed: no sidewalks have been assessed since 2021, and under the new policy homeowners remain responsible for sidewalks and aprons except where a township road rehabilitation project is occurring. “We haven't assessed any sidewalk since 2021,” Rippinger said, and the policy aligns the township with surrounding jurisdictions.
Trustees moved to dispense with a second reading and adopted Resolution 2025‑172 at the meeting. The administration told the board it expects sidewalk costs to be spread over recurring work — the township paves streets on a roughly two‑ to three‑year cycle — and that the change should keep costs minimal for residents when applied over time.
The adoption does not relieve homeowners of maintenance obligations outside of road rehab projects; it specifically removes assessment during a township‑led road rehabilitation. Trustees did not vote on new funding levels at the meeting; implementation and program details are to be managed by the public works department under the new policy.
