Delhi Township trustees and police leaders on Sept. 10 awarded life‑saving citations to two township officers for resuscitating an unresponsive resident on June 28.
The awards recognize Officer Petrusky and Officer Tri Case for performing CPR and using the department AED, actions Chief Braun said “resulted in the restoration of a pulse” and helped the patient make a full recovery and hospital discharge.
The recognition came at the township’s regular meeting inside the Delhi Township Event Center. Chief Braun described arriving officers finding the resident “unresponsive, discolored, and exhibiting agonal respirations,” and credited coordinated CPR and two AED shocks with restoring circulation. “Their decisive and skilled actions resulted in the restoration of a pulse,” he said.
Officer Petrusky told trustees the response involved coordinated work with Hamilton County dispatch and Delhi Fire: “it wasn't just a police thing. It was overall team effort from Hamilton County dispatch providing instructions for CPR... we were there within a minute or two.” Officer Tri Case, who accepted the award with Petrusky, thanked the department for training and equipment.
The meeting record notes the AED devices used were donated by a local business; Chief Braun acknowledged Dunkin’ Donuts’ donation of the defibrillators. Trustees praised the officers and emphasized that resident safety and volunteer support for emergency services were priorities. Trustee Seavey encouraged residents to consider the township citizen police academy; Chief Braun said an academy cohort starts in October and there are openings.
Discussion at the meeting also stressed the role of quick recognition and response time, and Delhi Fire Chief Campbell later reiterated that early AED use within the first four to six minutes is critical to preventing brain injury.
Trustees did not take formal policy action at the meeting related to the awards; the presentation was ceremonial and intended to recognize the officers’ response and to highlight community partnerships that provided equipment and training.
The township scheduled photo opportunities after the presentation and encouraged residents to attend upcoming public safety events, including a Touch‑a‑Truck family event and a public safety town hall next week.
