City officials note opioid awareness vigil, Stifel Center lit in purple; upcoming Port Authority meeting Sept. 16

City staff and the mayor told the Roseville City Council Tuesday that the city held an opioid awareness candlelight vigil the previous Sunday and that the Stifel Center was illuminated in purple for the event.
A staff speaker invited the mayor to comment on the vigil at the start of the council’s announcements. The mayor said the vigil was “well attended” for a first event and that it honored people who have lost loved ones to fentanyl and other drug overdoses. The mayor also identified Jackie Young as a local resident who “serves on the county committee for drug awareness and education.”
Council staff announced upcoming meetings: the Port Authority will meet Sept. 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. at City Hall, followed by a councilmember meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. The presiding official closed public comment for the evening noting there were no residents in attendance other than the fire chief and moved on to the consent agenda.
The remarks at the meeting described the vigil and the city’s intent to continue the event, but the council did not take any formal action or vote related to the opioid awareness event during the Sept. 2 session. No funding amounts, permit actions or formal proclamations tied to the vigil were discussed on the record at the meeting.
