Plan commission approves renaming stretch of West Gordon Pike to West Fullerton Pike

The Monroe County Plan Commission voted to rename a segment of West Gordon Pike as West Fullerton Pike after reviewing a petition from the Monroe County Highway Department and planning staff.
The petition covers approximately 2,500 linear feet from the intersection with South Clearview Drive to the former western terminus and a separate newly constructed segment of about 2,100 linear feet created by recent roundabout construction. Planning staff said the petition and maps show only one existing address will be affected: 1401 West Gordon Pike; staff’s initial addressing proposal is to change that address to 1401 West Fullerton Pike.
Daniel Brown (planning staff) and Lisa Ridge (Highway Department) described the request as an effort to simplify naming and reduce multiple name changes along a travel corridor created by new construction. Staff cited Indiana Code 36-7-4-405 as the statutory authority allowing planning commissions to assign street names and numbers. Ridge said the county wanted to reduce the number of distinct names used along a continuous route and noted that additional addresses east of the library would complicate a wider renaming.
No members of the public spoke in opposition at the hearing. Commissioner Scott Ferris moved to approve the road-name change with a waiver of final hearing; the commission voted by roll call to approve the petition, recorded in the minutes as an affirmative vote and later as 8–0 on the final tally.
The commission’s approval includes staff’s addressing recommendation for the single impacted property; staff noted final address numbers will be set once official road ranges are established. Planning staff will forward the change to addressing authorities and maintain the road-naming records.
