Taos County commissioners on Sept. 2 approved a maintenance agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation covering installation of traffic signals and intersection lighting at the NM 8 and NM 240 (San Francisco Road) intersection. The county will assume responsibility for maintenance and repairs after the state places the new lights.
County staff explained that the DOT would install the new lights and that Taos County would resume maintenance and repair responsibilities once installation was complete. Commissioners noted lights at the intersection were out currently and welcomed the replacement. A motion to approve the agreement passed by unanimous roll call.
The action was limited to approving the maintenance agreement; the transcript does not record a construction timeline beyond replacement and does not identify a contractor. The agreement assigns routine upkeep and repair responsibility to Taos County after installation by NMDOT.
