Council directs staff to solicit bids to repair or replace roofs on Ashby and Quonset buildings

The Beaver Dam Town Council voted to solicit bids to repair or replace roofs on town-owned buildings, including the Ashby Building, the Gaither warehouse and the Quonset Hut. Staff said the Ashby Building (on West Seventh Street) and nearby Quonset-style structures have recurring leaks that have required patching at an estimated $500–$600 annually. “We need to at least take bids to put roofs on it and see what it’s gonna cost us,” a staff member said. Council agreed to obtain bids and to prioritize work on the structures the town uses most. Members discussed options including a sloped metal roof or fiberglass cover for the Quonset-style structure, whether to bid the work as one combined contract or break it into separate projects, and that larger projects can lower unit costs. Staff said they would measure square footage, prepare bid documents and pursue bids for at least the Ashby Building first; the council approved the motion to solicit bids. The action authorizes solicitation of bids only; no contract award or budget appropriation was made at the meeting.
