Beaver Dam swears in new police officer from county sheriff’s department

The Beaver Dam Town Council voted to hire Jennifer Bernard as a police officer and administered the oath of office at Monday’s meeting. Staff introduced Bernard as coming to the department from the county sheriff’s department with approximately six and a half years of experience, including time as a detective and a road deputy. “She’s coming to us from the sheriff’s department. She has 6 and a half year experience. She’s served as detective,” a staff member said during the hire presentation. Council members moved, seconded and approved the hire. Bernard took the oath of office later in the meeting that follows statutory language: “I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth … and I will faithfully execute to the best of my ability the office of Beaver Dam’s police officer according to law,” the oath recited at the meeting stated. The council welcomed Bernard after her oath; no salary details or probationary terms were presented on the record. The hire and oath were formal actions recorded in open session; the council then moved to other agenda items.
