Ohio County library trustees report slight tax-rate decrease; fiscal court acknowledges presentation

The Ohio County Fiscal Court on Thursday acknowledged a presentation from the Ohio County Public Library Board that reported a small decrease in the library's property tax rate for the coming year. The library board president told the court the real-property rate dropped from 9.2 mills to 8.9 mills and that the motor-vehicle rate will remain at 4.2 mills.
The library board president, who spoke to the court during the meeting, said, “this year, we're pleased to announce that our tax rates have decreased 9.2 to 8.9 for real property. 9.2 is what it was, and it's down to 8.9 for personal property.” The court chair and other members voiced thanks and acknowledged the library's services for county residents.
Judge Johnston and other members of the fiscal court moved to acknowledge receipt of the library's tax-rate documents; the court recorded an affirmative voice vote and carried the acknowledgment. The presentation included no ordinance or formal change to county tax policy: the board reported the rates and the court acknowledged receiving the report.
The library board president noted community programming and printed calendars that list events for residents. The court did not take additional fiscal action during the meeting on the library's budget or levy; the acknowledgement was a formal receipt of the board's tax-rate statement.
The court will consider other tax-rate materials later in the meeting, including county extension office materials; no changes to the library rate were enacted at the meeting.
